When stress goes unchecked, burnout may soon follow. Burnout is not a temporary employee situation after a difficult and/or stressful week. Burnout is defined as the physical, emotional, and mental state of exhaustion caused by a demanding environment and/or the inability or desire to meet those demands.
Poor job performance.
Lack of motivation.
Poor customer service.
Negativity about the workplace.
An urge to leave your present job situation.
Some
of you may be wondering if youre burned out
because you recognize yourself with some of these
traits. Everyone can feel this way from time to time;
however an important distinction to consider is whether
these are temporary or chronic feelings. Feeling unmotivated
or negative at work may be more indicative of how
stressed you may be on any given day or week because
of upcoming deadlines or temporary circumstances.
But if you feel this way "all the time",
then you are likely well on your way to burnout.
